We have successfully typed over 2,200 STS (mainly microsatellite) markers on 90 hybrids of the T31 RH panel and have completed the construction of a framework map incorporating some twelve hundred of these markers. The consortium has focussed mainly on mapping transcripts from embryonic tissues (see web page) that are not readily accessible in the human (complementing human EST mapping) such as the urogenital ridge, 2 cell stage, 8 cell stage, endoderm, primitive streak etc. All sequences have been searched against EBI clusters and sequences selected for mapping that represent single clusters that have not been allocated in the RHALLOC database, thus avoiding redundancy of effort. Over 3000 ESTs have been successfully typed to date and the comprehensive maps now in preparation will include some five thousand markers. Examples of the type of data which will be available in the first data release scheduled for Nov-Dec 2000 will be discussed.
