WebQTL, also known as the Neurogenetics Tool Box, is Web-based software to identify and map loci which contribute to quantitative traits. It currently consists of a Python CGI script and supporting genotype data files taken from release 1 of the BXN database (http://genomebiology.com/2001/2/8/preprint/0007), a curated set of genotypes for over 100 recombinant inbred strains at about 1500 markers. WebQTL will be integrated with matched phenotype databases for RI strains and with the Mouse Brain Library (http://www.mbl.org/). WebQTL will include modules for statistical evaluation of quantitative traits, for correlation among traits, for mapping quantitative trait loci, and for archiving and exporting trait data. WebQTL will also provide support for mapping with recombinant inbred intercross (RIX) hybrids, sets of hybrids derived by combinatorial mating of members of an set of recombinant inbred lines. A prototype of the module for mapping QTLs is available at http://webqtl.roswellpark.org/cgi-bin/WebQTL.py. This prototype uses simple regression analysis to identify loci associated with a submitted quantitative trait, returning the results as a Web page and an optional email message.
