We have assembled a complete BAC contig of the Sxr region of the mouse Yp chromosome (http://www.hgsc.bcm.tmc.edu/seq_data/maps/mouse/Yp.gif). The Human Genome Sequencing Center of Baylor College of Medicine begun sequencing of the minimal tiling path of the region. The acquisition of a full genome sequence provides the basis for gene identification, genome organization, analysis of promoters and gene regulation. Through comparisons with available mouse X chromosomal data and interspecies comparisons of the sequences with homologous regions of the human Y and X chromosomes the evolutionary history of the sex chromosomes in mammals can be analyzed. All these analyses will be presented as well as complete annotation of the Yp sequence.
