In order to generate large numbers of mutant mice that can be screened for variety of phenotypes of importance, we have developed mutagenesis procedure by chemical mutagen ENU and phenotype-driven screening system in RIKEN-GSC. A genome-wide screen for dominant mutations affecting the blood test parameters comprises integral part of this project. An automatic hematology and a clinical biochemistry analyzer were installed for high throughput screenings and database system for collection and analysis of the test data was developed. Like situations in human, blood test can be essential for diagnosis of various diseases or lesions of mice and changes of the specific parameters may suggest dysfunction in specific organ, tissue, or cells. The blood-screening system we have established presents efficient tool for exploration of mutants those are useful for developing therapies and developing therapies and diagnosing of human diseases. Powers of this approach will be discussed.
