We are collating the mouse T31 Radiation Hybrid (RH) data from all public sources into a single database. As of August 2001 The Jackson Laboratory T31 Mouse RH Database contained about 3,750 distinct microsatellite anchor markers, about 13,400 expressed sequence tag (EST) loci mapped in three international genome centers, and over 500 other individual loci of interest (www.jax.org/resources/documents/cmdata). About a third of the mapped ESTs have identified gene functions in the note field, and we are adding more definitions as we find them. About 370 different laboratories around the world have contributed T31 RH data to this effort.
In order to maximize the level of confidence for the mouse RH map and develop appropriate analysis tools, we are building the framework map of known-order anchor markers between the RH and The Jackson Laboratory backcross panels. The frameworking project has resulted in the correction of some genomic regions that were intially misordered in the RH data, the identification of mismapping D_Mit_ anchor loci, the detection of some data errors and omissions in the recombination map, and provides a high density of cross-links between the recombination and radiation hybrid maps that facilitate accurate genome-wide map construction. Our program supports both of these mapping methodologies and provides mapping reagents, technical support, and publicly accessible databases and maps.
