The mouse has become an important model organism for understanding the function of novel genes and the mouse mutants has proved to be invaluable for the investigation of human disease processes. The EuroCOMP (together with the EuroGENET) is a collaborative project whose main objective is to provide the scientific community with new mutations created in the phenotype-driven large-scale mutagenesis program. Different partners (GSF Munich, Germany http://www.gsf.de/isg/groups/enu/, MRC Harwell, UK http://www.mgu.har.mrc.ac.uk/mutabase/ and CNRS-CDTA Orleans, France http://cdta.cnrs-orleans.fr/Anglais/Acceuilcdtagb.html) carry out the screens and the information is recorded. During the process the existing data resources and databases will be integrated through the common web interface that would hide the technical differences in implementation. Currently different software to be used (CORBA, PHP, JAVA & JDBC, Perl & DBI) is being tested and the prototypes created.
