At the end of routine screening procedures for early-onset phenotypes in 13 weeks of age G1 mice mutagenized by chemical mutagen ENU, late-onset phenotype screenings were commenced and to be performed successively until 78weeks of age. These screenings are featured as a unique challenge of the project to identify mouse mutants with phenotype relative to human common diseases or geriatric diseases. We have set up protocols for each screening step and tried to optimize the procedures. Systolic blood pressure levels were measured with tail-cuffs coordinated simultaneously by computer. Histological method to detect arteriosclerosis, obesity and osteoporosis were examined. Biochemical and physiological methods to search diabetic abnormality were explored. Anatomical, histological and hematological analyses are to be performed for searching neoplastic lesions in organs and hematic system using 78-weeks-old male G1 mice. Feasibility and scope of these screenings will be discussed.
